Faith

Such an elaborate deceiver, night would be day
As your subtle, forked tongue, strips all reason away.

Such admirable eloquence your held high in esteem
As your enviable charm hides the writing between.

With such evocative words man flocks to your door
And with savage deliverance you rise ever more.

Until finally you are revered, all your lies so naively believed
And with the simplest of gestures you bring this world to its knees.

Men follow without question and murder in your name
All opposition is heresy, to be purged in searing flame.

I, like so many before me, soon joined your cause
Never questioned your divinity, never believed you could have flaws.

And so it was I would always serve yet still you made a slave
My spirit far too deadly lest against your laws it braved.

I never saw the beast before me, for your illusion lay expertly placed
And so as with all the others, my will you laid to waste.

I pray you fall from you God-like height and that your words deceive no more
And I pray no-one makes the same mistakes that so many have before.
