The Bourne Identity

This is quite the intelligent spy thriller. Matt Damon is great as a man with no memory, who slowly figures out that he is some sort of super-spy / assassin.

The premise may sound old and tired, but the film makes the idea seem fresh and new. Matt has to figure out who he is and then, once he has an idea, he has to decide who he wants to become... assuming he can stay alive long enough to do so.

There are a number of sensational yet subtle special effects that manage to convey in a very believable way just what Matt's "enhancements" are. Of course there are chase scenes galore and the usual spythriller fare, but it somehow the film manages to remain a bit more gritty and believable than those of the James Bond genre.

The film had a satisfying ending, and it left me hoping that Matt Damon will be called on to do some more Bourne Identity sequels. They certainly left the door open to do so.

No chills, a little bit of messing with your head, and 4 eyeballs out of 5 for being worth watching. See it in the theater or rent it when it hits the stores. Well worth your time, even if it isn't a Scary movie.
