Wes Craven's Dracula 2000
I was pleasantly surprised by this flick.
I guess my expectations have been lowered lately. John Carpenter really disappointed me with his "John Carpenter's Vampires" movie last year, so I didn't want to get taken in again. While Dracula 2000 is no masterpiece, it is pretty fun. There is a good twist to the tale that does a good job of explaining Dracula's dislike for things made of silver and Christian imagery. And I didn't see it coming till just before it was made clear, so I enjoyed the new perspective.
That is not to say that this film is flawless... far from it. There were a few rough-looking edits, where I suspect last-minute cutting was taking place. And one of the coolest effects seen in the previews has actually been edited out of the final film. There is one big-name star in the film, and he is the best actor. And without revealing more, this film defies some of the Hollywood tenants about keeping certain characters alive no matter what...
Sciffy enjoyed the film as well, although she is less taken with the vampire genre than I am. In fact, she felt this Dracula was pretty sexy! He had her purring midway through the film...
Anyway, Dracula 2000 is worth seeing in the theater or renting. Go for it.
