Scary Movie Reviews

Dragonfly

Kevin Costner does an adequate job in this spooky thriller. It seems his pregnant wife dies while on a "Doctor's without Borders" mercy mission in the jungles of South America. The question is, are the spooky things happening around Kevin his imagination or is his wife trying to contact him "from beyond" for some reason?

Well obviously, this wouldn't be much of a ghost story if there wasn't supernatural stuff happening. But the director did a good job of making you doubt it once in a while. By the end of the movie you understand why his wife was trying to reach him... but during the movie I kept thinking to myself "Why doesn't she leave those poor cancer-ward kids alone? Don't they have enough problems?"

In general the story is pretty good, and there are a couple of really solid chills to be experienced. (Who would have thought that hearing a parrot say "Honey, I'm home!" would give me goosebumps?!) But this movie is nowhere near as spooky as "Sixth Sense" or even "Signs".

In summary, it is a good rental for a dark evening of spooky movies... but start off with this one as an appetizer, then move onto the big chills!
