Escape From LA
This is the sequel to "Escape from New York" and it was filmed quite a few years later. But it still has that telltale John Carpenter low-budget look and feel, not to mention the usual relentless soundtrack.
This time, Snake is dropped off In LA, which has been turned into a dumping ground for "undesirables" after an earthquake splits it off from the mainland. The ultra-right-wing-theocracy ruled by a President for Life wants a particularly nasty weapons control system returned, after it was stolen by the President's daughter. She escapes to LA, and hooks up with another bad guy. 'Nuff said on the plot... this is just another excuse to put Snake back into action.
This time, John really does cross the line over into pure camp. You'll know when you see the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills and his staff, and the Tsunami Surfing scene too. Nevertheless, there are still a number of good explosions, fights, and clever escapes to keep this romp going. Hell, there is even a momentarily sad scene when a particularly likable character bites the dust. John has it all... guns, girls, and a Brand New America to boot!
Be sure to rent Escape from New York to get the full effect.
Enjoy!
