Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

What a nice surprise. Lara Croft turns out to be almost as fun as Indiana Jones, and much nicer to look at. (Sorry ladies... you have Indy, the guys have Lara.)

There are elements to this movie that remind me of the Batman movies of the last decade. We have our devoted servants and sidekicks, we have our cool gadget laboratory, and we have excellent wheels. Lara's story hints as sorrow and tragedy in her past, much like Batman, and she keeps herself remote from emotional relationships with other humans... sorta... But after that, the similarity ends and she is more like a female Indiana Jones, except she is less concerned with archeology and more with tomb robbing.

The bit with the robot seemed unnecessary, since it never plays much of an important role in the movie. I wonder if they cut some scenes? And I am never quite sure why she seems to have a soft spot for that fellow tomb raider who pretty much consistently proves himself to be an untrustworthy scoundrel... but then again, that is a reflection of real life all too often.

The special effects are way cool, especially the time control scenes near the end. Lots of eye-candy.

Tomb Raider gives you no chills, and may only disturb you slightly, but it is a lot of fun to watch so it gets 4 eyeballs.

Enjoy!
