The Mummy Returns
Wow! It isn't often that a sequel lives up to the original, but this is one of those times!
The original Mummy movie was a blast, combining elements of Indiana Jones style adventure with some good old fashioned gore and supernatural mayhem. The Mummy Returns continues that excellent recipe, and it provides us with a terrifying glimpse of hell, a Jurassic-Park-style scene of people getting nailed in the tall grass, lots of scorpions, one big-ass scorpion god, and of course, everybody's favorites... the flesh eating beetles! Yahoo!
The movie includes a kid this time, and unlike the second Indiana Jones film where the brat seemed to be an afterthought, this kid has an important part to play in the film. And both he and his mother are resourceful... not content to be simple, cooperative victims. It's good to see a family that fights the forces of evil together...
I'm gonna go see it again next week. You should too.
