Red Dragon

Hurray for Anthony Hopkins, who once again gives us a glimpse into the mind of a sociopathic genius. But he isn't really the star of this film... and in fact he isn't on screen all that long, but his presence is weighty enough to leave you feeling like the film was about him...

Aside from Anthony as Hannibal, the rest of the cast are excellent as well. In fact, the lead character manages to pluck the heart strings for a bit, making him seem quite sympathetic at times. A quote from the movie puts it well... "You didn't fall for a monster... you fell for a man, with a monster on his back". There are more than a few similarities and connections to Hitchcock's Norman Bates.

Despite his sympathetic nature this guy really is quite they nasty murderer, with bizarre creative touches. And his tattoo is incredible, seeming almost to have a life of it's own... which is kinda the point, I guess. Nurse Spasm felt that the psychosis aspects were handled quite accurately.

The ending has a twist, that I must confess, I didn't see coming. (Nurse Spasm had an inkling, though...) It is a rare film that can fool me so well, and I loved every minute of it.

Bottom line... Go see it. Rent it. Buy it. I hope they put out a three disk set soon, because it would be worth watching as a series.

Chills...

Chill Factor
Disturbance Factor
Eyeball Factor
