Scream
Scream, when it first came out, was a groundbreaking flick. It acknowledged the existence of other horror films, and actually built its premise on the idea that a killer might use them as inspiration for a killing spree. So many other horror films seem as if the people in it never saw one. Like... everybody knows you shouldn't back through a darkened doorway, and you should never say "I'll be back!" because it is a sure bet that you are never coming back. This movie actually takes all those concepts and works it into the story line because the character have all seen horror flicks and should know better... usually.
One of the best parts came when a famous leading actress, who you usually have pegged as one of the inevitable "survivors", is actually dispatched in the first 10 minutes into the flick. Once that happens, all bets are off, and you truly feel that anybody could be next. Great trick!
Anyway, this movie deserves 4 eyeballs because of its groundbreaking approach and sheer fun factor. It gets a Disturbance Factor skull for bringing up the idea that there might be people out there who are just sick enough to do something like that. And while this movie does not leave much to the imagination, it certainly deserves three Chilly hands for the various shocks, jolts and unexpected twists.
By the end of this flick, you will be careful just who you trust...
Good rental, fun evening. Pop some popcorn, grab some friends and make it a party... just like they did in the movie!
