The Others
Now here is a genuinely scary ghost story... with a true twist!
In the same way that the film "The Sixth Sense" fooled audiences right up to the end, this film does the same, leaving you with the desire to watch it all over again to see the clues you missed before.
This film's visual look and feel appeals to me greatly, because I am fond of the interplay of light and shadows. The acting is surprisingly deep and well done, and the story does not miss a beat. There is a nicely rounded collection of slow building tension, abrupt jolts, and true chill-producing scenes that I have to say this is a well done ghost story. And there are almost no special effects! It is all accomplished through the art of story telling and the rich visual and auditory atmosphere.
Even though I was watching this film at a Drive-In in Maine, (filled with inconsiderate yahoos who didn't have the common courtesy to keep their headlights off and their horns silent) Nurse Spasm and I enjoyed it greatly, and plan of watching it again in a theater soon.
Go out and see it a few times. It is worth it. (And don't give away the ending!)
