Scary Movie Reviews

The Watcher in the Woods

You may find it hard to believe, but this is a Disney film. If you intend to show it to others, particularly teenagers, I suggest you prepare the tape by fast forwarding past that Disney logo before you start it so it won't color their perception of the movie.

Despite the serious handicap of being associated with Disney, this is an effectively scary movie. Part of why it is such a winner for me is that it deals somewhat with the "holes into other dimensions" concept I find so fascinating. What starts out looking like a standard ghost story soon develops the dimensional twist that really sets it apart.

The movie has decent casting, including a quite famous venerable actress of stage and screen (you will be surprised who it is!). The special effects are simple yet good. Particularly the bits with the mirror and catching glimpses of the other world and the person trying to communicate.

Not many people have seen or heard of this very good movie. A good flick for all ages. Rent or buy this one for Halloween.
