The Moving Glass

I just wanted to tell you about this one time I didn't believe my eyes and it all happened in a few seconds but here's the complete description. I came home late from school and I just wanted a glass of water after a heavy math exam. the thing is that I placed the glass on my dining table and my grandma was in the kitchen. then I intended to grab the glass again, but I SWEAR it moved! first I thought it was just me because I was tired due to the exam, so I looked away and then looked again and it kept on moving. I really couldn't believe it, it was almost funny, so I looked at my grandma to prove if she could see the glass moving too but she went away! I looked again and it stopped moving. I still thought it was my tired brain, so I inspected the area to see if something else had pushed it, I didn't see anything, just the track of water that any wet glass leaves after being displaced, that was the proof that it had moved, but I couldn't figure out what moved it. I was freaked out, I wasn't scared just surprised that I HAD seen a glass move by itself!

I've seen that explanation about poltergeists, but that would probably require a mind in it's normal state, right? not a tired mind after a math exam! After that, nothing strange happened, there are no ghosts in my house (or so I think), but that glass was really a unique experience. I tell you I was about to laugh at myself while I was thinking rationally.

(Nancy, thanks for the story. You can rest easy, though... you are not seeing things, nor is it likely that you have a thirsty ghost. The clue to the reason you saw that glass move is right in the story... the track of water you mentioned. It is most likely that enough water was trapped directly under the glass that it was able to remain lifted off the surface by a very thin sheen of water, but enough to reduce the friction between the glass and the table surface. Any slight vibration (from walking, for example) or a slight tilt to the table would provide enough incentive for the glass to slide a bit on that cushion of trapped water. Kinda like hydroplaning in a car. Sorry to bust the scary bubble, but after you eliminate the stuff that can be explained away, then you can truly appreciate the things that can't be explained. Chills... Scuttles)
