The Ghost in the Jennie Wade room

This one requires a preface. It is an e-mail I received after our stay at the Farnsworth House. I met this couple in the bookstore and mentioned that we had just stayed in the Jennie Wade room, and had a couple of odd things happen to me. For instance, my video camera, which had a full battery before we arrived, suddenly died with a low battery signal when I panned across the portrait of Jennie. Well, I had a fully charged spare and popped that in and started panning the room again. Right on cue, as soon as I had Jennie in my sights, the video camera died again... low battery. Now this behavior is not unusual in haunted places. The spirits seem to have an affinity for electricity and can readily play games with it.

Later that evening, Jennie decided she knew me well enough, and let me use the video camera. Other than a rather intense dream for Sciffy, and some potential EVP sounds on the tape, we didn't see much more action. However, the couple I mentioned informed me that they were planning on staying in the Jennie Wade room that night. This, then, is their experience, and they gave me permission to post their letter here.

Was Jennie toying with Jack? Or was it one of the 13 other ghosts at the Farnsworth House. You decide.

My name is Kelly Ruth... we were at the Farnsworth House when you were there (I was the one that got sick to my stomach in the Theatre and ended up leaving).

We wanted to check out the web site you spoke about. I don't know if you remember us or not, we checked into the Jennie Wade room after you left. You told us to let you know if we had any experiences. Well my husband, Jack, had one.

He was standing by the window getting ready to take a picture and he felt something brush the back of his neck. So he slowly walked back to the bed turned around and looked, then walked back to the window to take the picture again. Well then he felt the same brush on the back of his neck, so he turned and walked back to the bed, looked and went back to the window. Well the third time back at the window nothing happened. So he went back and took a picture.

Patti (from the front desk) told us about how the lady (Mary) that haunted the room, was thoughtful and kind, etc. Out of all of the pictures that he took in the room, there was nothing. I believe he took a whole roll. Needless to say we have a lot of pictures of the beautiful room we stayed at!!!!

Me on the other hand was pretty scared. I couldn't sleep at all, I wasn't wanting some one sitting at the end of the bed!!! HAHA! (Wimp) So I made my husband keep the lights on in the room. I barely slept (maybe an hour) the whole night.
